GENERAL CAMP

FORMAT

Our General camps transition into an overnight format this year. Campers will report on Friday afternoon and stay until Sunday afternoon, our coaches feel that this format gives our athletes the best opportunity to maximize this experience having over 15 hrs to learn from our coaches in on-field, film sessions and meetings. Practices will be held at Clarke Field in Edmonton (subject to city approval)

LODGING

Edmonton’s Downtown Courtyard Marriott will host Playmaker U in 2011 and will provide lodging as well as the dinner and breakfast portion of the meals, and all meetings and activities from Friday through Sunday outside of the field practices for all coaches and athletes. The Courtyard Marriott is centrally located on Jasper Ave in the heart of the city centre and parents staying will have access to all downtown amenities. Staying parents will be given a discounted rate if wishing to stay at the Hotel with the athletes, but will have to book separately.

Each player will be paired with a roommate, for those wishing to choose their roommate please indicate the name of the desired roommate on the online registration form. If none is given, you will be paired up at random.

Athletes can choose to either include lodging and meals, or to leave them out in their registration process online.

MEALS

Athletes choosing the meal plan will receive 1 meal on Friday, 3 meals Saturday, and 2 meals on Sunday. Dinner will be provided upon return to the hotel Friday after testing, and Saturday night. Hot breakfast will be served before heading to the field Saturday and Sunday morning, healthy snacks at 11am and lunch provided at the field after practice both days. Athletes not choosing the meal/lodging plan will still receive the snack portion during the break in practice.

MEETINGS / GAME CENTRAL

Meetings are mandatory for all players and will take place in one of the Marriott’s 3 meeting rooms. Even players not staying in the hotel are expected to be at every meeting. Times and locations will vary over the weekend, and each Athlete will receive a full itinerary and schedule with their playbooks. Film breakdown and offensive and defensive technique and scheme will be combed over during this time. Each of Playmaker U’s positional coaches will lead their positions respective meetings.

After meetings each night, meeting rooms will be transformed into game rooms to allow the players to unwind by playing XBox 360 and Playstation 3. Game rooms will only be accessible to athletes staying in the hotel overnight.

TESTING

Playmaker U Campers will be put through combine testing on Friday by Ridley Scouting Services. The laser timing and results of this testing will be sent to all CIS schools as well as several NCAA football programs to increase the level of exposure of each athlete. Results will also be posted on the Playmaker U website for scouts and athletes to access there. (Athletes should bring cleats to run on as well as sneakers for jumping tests)

Graduating seniors, and Junior players are welcome at our Friday High School combine. There is never a bad time to increase your level of exposure!

COACHES

Playmaker U boasts some of the best players in the country as it’s coaching staff, and all have a unique way of communicating how they view their position to the Athletes. Campers will have over 15 teaching hours with some of the CFL’s finest. 2011 coaches will include CFL Most Outstanding Player Henry Burris, Grey Cup Most Outstanding Canadian Keith Shologan, CFL All-stars Juwan Simpson, Joffrey Reynolds, Shea Emry, Dimitri Tsoumpas, Kamau Peterson, Travis Lulay, Graeme Bell, Aaron Fiacconi, Elliott Richardson and more.

PERFORMANCE DVD

Each athlete will receive a performance DVD of specific competitive drills they participated in throughout the camps duration. DVD’s will be mailed to the address provided on the online registration form, so take care in entering this information. Each positions camp performance video will also be uploaded on to Playmaker U’s youtube channel to be accessed by scouts and viewed by the athletes as well.
