7 on 7 High School Tournament Date: (Summer - TBA) Playmaker U working in conjunction with the University of Alberta and the Edmonton Touch Football Association will once again try to put on a province wide High School 7 on 7 tournament. The tournament would be for returning high school age players and would give teams a chance to work together prior to their fall camps on some of the upcoming passing playbook and pass defence, or give some teams who may be reluctant to put the ball in the air a chance to hone their skills, and raise confidence levels. The tournament while tailored for returning high school age players, would not force teams to enter under a high school flag. Inclusion is a goal for this tourney and some who may not be permitted to organize as schooled athletes during the summer months, could then organize under a recreational name while still getting their work in. Ideally, we would marry the weekend tournament with an Eskimo home game and allow the teams a chance to watch us practice should they so wish, as well as tickets for the game to the winning team. This year through sponsorship aid we’ll be able to put this event on for minimal cost to the players ($300 per team, maximum 20 players, minimum 10 players). In addition, we’ve secured lodging sponsorship for all of our events this season for out of town team rates and registration discounts for staying with our corporate lodging sponsor Coast Hotels. Once again I’d appreciate coaches feedback regarding the best dates for this event, or any other concerns that you may have. These are your athletes that we’re trying to help, so please don’t hesitate. Once the CFL schedule comes out I’ll set a date for the tournament, and registration for this event will begin in early in the spring and close at the end of May so that teams can decide and commit before school lets out.
